Don’t Settle
I agree with this statement 100%. Well, maybe less than that.
The single greatest factor here is who is on your team. We view these statements from our own perspective. But we cannot do much on our own. Look at anyone who you admire and you will see that their story is only a thread in a much larger story being told. How we create our future depends on how well we partner with others. This is not limited to the logistics. Like, "I will sell it and you can produce it." Partnership requires alignment. Alignment of values, goals, time and resources.
So should we "keep looking?" Well that depends. Here is why. Because in the right environment, we can push for more and more of this idealism. But there is nuance here. We have to be careful of jumping from this statement to a predetermined conclusion.
Example: "If you are hungry, eat something"
That does not necessarily mean RIGHT NOW. But don't just accept being hungry when food is available and will fuel your continued growth and productivity. Hunger has to be solved. But when we do it well, we gain the maximum benefit. So HOW do you eat? When, how, what, and with who?
So a better statement would be; If you are hungry, determine the best way to eat.
Before quitting something you don't love, I recommend evaluating where you want to be in the long term, not just right now. Then look around for partners who can support that vision. Is someone else already doing it better? Maybe joining them is better than doing it yourself. Or maybe a new team with a fresh vision needs you to lead.
What part do you play in the larger story and how do you find your part?
In my blog post, Collaborate or Survive, I lay out a process to guide you from dreaming to success. Let me know where you are in this process. I would love to learn and share your story!
